Art Resume Tips
If you have done a resume before but never an art resume then you are going to be in for a little shock; they are done differently. Hopefully you have kept a soft copy of your old resume to have a base to work from. While art resumes tend to be much longer than the traditional resume they do share some point. Both need to be well-written and very clear.
As an artist you might behoove you to do this simple thing' write two copies of your resume. The first will be the traditional one page type. Then there will be your true resume. This one is more expansive in your work as an artist and will run between 2 to 3 pages. If it ends up longer you know it is time to start doing some editing and drop the less important items.
Your resume will need to include certain things starting with your name. Use a slightly larger font than you do for the rest. From there include the basic resume things like address, contact numbers and a website, if you have one.
- Education. This should include your degree and college but also any other education experience you have had. Be sure to include any recognition or honors you receive while doing any of them
- Honors and Awards. This will be any that you have received other than those listed above. This is also where you will want to mention ant grants you have received as well.
- Bibliography. This is If a photo you took is used in any printed medium. If it has showed up in a book or magazine list it here.
- Exhibitions. These are shows that you have put on. AAS you know there are many types, some temporary and some more permanent, but they showed all be listed along with the location and dates. If you have done a few of several types you might want to break the category down.
- Professional affiliations. This is just what it sounds like. Be sure to list them all, from local to national. If you had a position in those organizations that needs to be included too. That reflects highly on you.
- Professional experience. This is a very open category because it not only lets you include professional work but things such as teaching, even if it is just a short run class. This is also where you can put other things that you think are relevant but don't seem to neatly fit into another category.
