Acting Resume
Your acting resume is very much like any-body's resume, a history of your work in that field, your special talents, and your accomplishments. In it you will include all the types of acting you have done like TV, film, theater, etc You could even list working at a Renaissance fair if you where acting in character. If you are first start out you will want to list it all but as you gather experience you will need to do some editing, dropping the smaller roles. You will also want to include any special skills you have as well even if you have not yet used them in your work, like you have a 4 octave singing voice.
As you gain experience it will be necessary to edit your resume down to keep it at the one page mark. Less important roles should be edit out and leave the more important works you have done. It is generally considered best to break your roles down into each medium. This means you might have one for stage, one for film and one for movies.
Also be sure to include any awards or honors you have won as well. They add a lot to your credibility and make you more marketable. Include your training along with your schooling. Membership to professional organizations , such as SAG, are also included.
More tips
- Keep it real. Don't just make up role to make you resume look better or to fill space. Getting caught in a lie will destroy your credibility.
- Actors can be hams but keep your resume down to letter size. Use stand size resume paper and don''t make it to flashy. After all, it is still a business document.
- Don't reduce the font too much just to get more on there. You name should be easy to read.
- Make sure you have an email account just for acting and for responses from your resume. You don't want to lose something.
- Keep your contact information current. They are not going to make much of an effort to find you so make it easy for you. Many actors have lost role because nobody answered the phone.
- Put a lot of emphasis on your training. To casting directors it means a lot. Where you went to school and trained shows through in your acting.
